AVOIDING, TIMING, SPACING AND POSTPONING PREGNANCY USING THE BILLINGS OVULATION METHOD
PLEASE VISIT THE OFFICIAL WOOMB INTERNATIONAL INC. WEBSITE FOR AN Explanation of the Rules IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN USING THE BILLINGS METHOD YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO LEARN and arrange follow up with a Billings teacher near you.
The
Billings Method requires women to pay attention to the sensations at
the vulva as they go about their normal activities, and to keep a daily
record. An accredited teacher can help them interpret their own
individual pattern and apply the following rules.
Rules of the Billings Method For the achievement of pregnancy
Apply the Early Day Rules
(below) so that the change to the fertile pattern of mucus can be
recognized. Then postpone intercourse until slippery mucus occurs. The
next few days are the most fertile. Therefore intercourse should occur
while slippery mucus is obvious and for one or two days past the Peak. For postponement of pregnancy
Early Day Rules
- 1. Avoid intercourse on days of heavy bleeding during menstruation
- 2. Alternate evenings are available for intercourse when these days have been recognized as infertile (Basic Infertile Pattern).
- 3.
Avoid intercourse on any days of discharge or bleeding which interrupts
the Basic Infertile Pattern. Allow 3 days of Basic Infertile Pattern
afterwards before intercourse is resumed on the fourth evening. Rule 2
continues
Peak Rule
When
the Peak is identified following a change from the BIP, the Peak Rule
is applied. From the beginning of the fourth day following the Peak
until the end of the cycle, intercourse is available every day at any
time.
BIOLOGICAL FACTS
- Ovulation occurs on only one day in each cycle
- The egg lives only 12-24 hours if not fertilized.
- Sperm need mucus with fertile characteristics to survive, otherwise they will die within a short time.
- Pregnancy can result from genital contact on days of mucus with fertile signs without penetration or ejaculation
- Intimate
genital contact on days of possible fertility may cause conception even
when contraceptive devices are used. Such practices are not part of the
Billings Method.
MANAGING YOUR FERTILITY, NATURALLY
As a couple you can learn to identify your combined fertility
through the woman's observations of the mucus and the sensations
accompanying it. No internal investigations are necessary.
Accurate knowledge of the method is essential. You will learn three
common sense Early Day rules and one Peak Day rule and gain confidence
in keeping a simple, daily record, from an accredited Billings
Ovulation Method teacher.
NATURALLY SAFE
The Billings Ovulation Method provides an extremely effective way
of regulating birth. Scientific studies indicate that with proper
instruction and motivation, this method in actual practice is better than 99%
effective, without any of the negatives of the contraceptive
methods. It does not damage fertility.
Once learned the method can be applied to all variations
throughout your reproductive life:
- regular cycles
- irregular cycles
- anovular cycles
- effects of stress
- after childbirth or miscarriage
- while breastfeeding
- approaching menopause
- low fertility
and coming off contraceptive medication
THE ESSENCE OF THE BILLINGS OVULATION
METHOD
Ovulation occurs on only one day in each cycle and the egg lives
for only 12-24 hours unless fertilised. Sperm need mucus in
order to survive for more than a very short time.
However, in the presence of mucus indicating fertility, sperm may
live 3 - 5 days.
Fertility of the couple depends on:
- normal ovulation
- healthy sperm
- healthy cervix producing satisfactory
mucus
- healthy endometrium (lining of the womb)
- healthy fallopian tubes
- harmonious relationship between husband
and wife.
Contraceptive medication work to interfere with the
operation of one or more of these factors.
The Billings Ovulation Method is based on identifying the times
of fertility and infertility occurring naturally in a woman's
cycle, regardless of the length or regularity of her cycle.
Success of the Billings Ovulation Method depends on good instruction:
- correct understanding
- accurate observation and daily charting
- mutual motivation and loving co-operation
between the couple
